Quick Migration FAQs
What is SkillSelect and how does it work?
SkillSelect is Australia's online Expression of Interest (EOI) system for skilled migration. You submit an EOI with your details and points score. When your score is high enough and there are available places, the Department of Home Affairs invites you to apply for a visa. Higher scores = faster invitations.
How long does it take to get Australian PR?
Timelines vary greatly by visa type. Skilled visas (189/190) typically take 6–18+ months. The 186 employer-sponsored visa takes 9–24 months. Partner visas (820/801) take 12–36+ months. During your consultation, migrateVerse provides realistic timelines based on current processing data.
Can I include my family in my application?
Yes — most Australian visas allow you to include your spouse/partner and dependent children. Some family members can also be included in a later Subsequent Entrant application once your primary visa is granted.
What English test do I need for Australian migration?
Most skilled visas accept IELTS (Academic or General), PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced, or OET. The minimum score varies by visa type — for example, IELTS 6.0 for competent English, 7.0 for proficient, 8.0 for superior. migrateVerse will advise which test and score you need.
What is a skills assessment and do I need one?
A skills assessment is a formal evaluation of your qualifications and work experience by an Australian assessing authority in your occupation (e.g., Engineers Australia, VETASSESS, CPA Australia). Most skilled migration visas require a positive skills assessment before you can apply.
What is the difference between a bridging visa and a substantive visa?
A substantive visa is a 'real' visa (like a student visa, skilled visa, or work visa). A bridging visa is a temporary permission to stay in Australia while you wait for a decision on a new substantive visa application you have already lodged.
